Culture, by definition, is “the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation.” It is easy to picture Mexican Culture being picturesque, family-oriented, and overall vibrant. It makes me sad when people visit and say that we are not Mexico or part of it; granted, we do not have the clay pottery, but we are a different part of Mexico. It is like saying that New Orleans and Hawaii are not part of US culture, which, yeah, the local main dish may not be pizza, but it is still part of the country’s culture.
The same applies to tacos, we eat them, but it is not the main dish. In the south, we adjust the Mexican culture to the Caribbean lifestyle and the heat. We inherited the history of one of the most sophisticated ancient civilizations, the Mayans, and we continue sharing it with the world. Here we will explore the local Mexican culture, and I hope you enjoy it.
